The McMinn County Career & Technical Education building and shop was evacuated this afternoon due to an issue with an electrical panel. All students were safely evacuated from the CTE building and relocated inside the main building. Athens Fire Department responded and secured the scene. There were no injuries reported, all students are accounted for and safe.
We're pleased to notify you the soft lockdown has ended. We're thankful for our collaboration with the McMinn County Sheriff's Office in ensuring that our schools are safe and drug free.
In collaboration with the McMinn County Sheriff’s Dept., McMinn County High School is on a soft lockdown. No imminent threat exists; however, random searches of vehicles, lockers, and classrooms will be conducted to ensure that no illegal items or substances are on our campus. The McMinn County School District and Sheriff’s Department take our school’s safety seriously and will continue to work together on school safety searches and other issues so that our students have a safe environment to receive a quality education.

A concerned community member notified McMinn County High School Administration and SROs of a student allegedly possessing a firearm on campus Thursday, April 20. After a swift and thorough investigation by the Administration and School Resource Officers, a BB pistol was recovered from a student’s vehicle. At this moment, there have not been reports of a threat or ill intent. Appropriate disciplinary measures are being taken. The safety and security of our students is of the utmost importance. Thank you to those who reported this incident in a timely manner so appropriate measures could be taken to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
